NZLA Etho - Lawn Herbicide 500ml & 1L
NZLA Etho Herbicide
Available in 500ml and 1L sizes.
About NZLA Etho
NZLA Etho is a selective herbicide designed for use on Tall Fescue and Perennial Rye lawns as both a pre-emergent and post-emergent solution.
- Application Rates:
- Use 40ml per 100m² mixed with 4-5 litres of water.
- For post-emergent control, allow the product to dry on the lawn.
- For pre-emergent control, apply with 3-5mm of irrigation immediately after spraying.
Important:
- Do not use on Fine Fescue lawns, as it will kill the grass.
- Tall Fescue may experience slight knockback in certain conditions. To minimize this, ensure your lawn is healthy and actively growing before applying.
- Avoid applying Etho close to a Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) application.
Pre-Emergent Use
When seeding a new 100% Perennial Rye or 100% Tall Fescue lawn, Etho can be applied as a pre-emergent at the time of seeding, before germination begins.
-
Pre-Emergent Application:
- Mix 40ml in 4-5L of water per 100m².
- Follow with 3-5mm of irrigation to activate the product in the soil.
-
Tank Mixing:
Etho can be combined with NZLA Meso for enhanced pre-emergent control. If top dressing, apply the Etho/Meso mixture over the new layer of material. -
Frequency:
- Reapply every 2-3 months for ongoing pre-emergent control.
- During late autumn (when Poa becomes problematic), increase frequency to every 6-8 weeks, reducing as spring approaches.
Post-Emergent Use
Etho can also be used as a post-emergent herbicide on 100% Perennial Rye and 100% Tall Fescue lawns.
- Post-Emergent Application:
- Mix 40ml per 100m² with 4-5L of water. Allow the product to dry on the lawn.
- Wait 4 weeks after seed germination before applying Etho as a post-emergent herbicide, especially on Tall Fescue.
- For Perennial Rye lawns, some studies suggest spraying as early as 2 weeks post-germination, once seedlings reach 1” tall.
Control of Annual Poa in Rye & Tall Fescue Lawns
To effectively manage Annual Poa (Poa annua):
- Apply 40ml per 100m² in 4-5L of water, followed by 3-5mm of irrigation immediately after application. This creates a pre-emergent barrier to prevent further Poa seed germination.
- After 14 days, reapply at the same rate, but this time allow the product to dry on the foliage for maximum results.
Weed Control
Etho works as a pre-emergent by absorbing into the emerging shoots of grass weeds and the roots of broadleaf weeds soon after germination.
Susceptible Weeds Include:
- Annual Poa (Poa annua)
- Chickweed
- Cleavers
- Fumitory
- Redroot
- Sow Thistle
- Spurrey
- Summer Grass
- Wild Portulaca
Note: Etho is not a substitute for a general turf herbicide like Triumph Gold. It is specifically valued for controlling Annual Poa and Summer Grass.
Summary: NZLA Etho is a versatile addition to any lawn care regimen, offering both pre- and post-emergent weed control. For optimal results, follow the recommended rates and application instructions carefully.
